Students must come to school every day unless they are ill. District Policy mandates the following:
a. Parents/Guardians must send a note for any student absence to be excused.
b. After 3 unexcused absences in a row or 5 total unlawful absences, an intervention plan is required.
c. After 10 absences of any kind, a medical excuse is required.
South Carolina State Law (Section 59-65-90 as amended) requires that school officials shall immediately intervene to encourage the student’s future attendance when the student has three (3) consecutive unlawful absences or a total of five (5) unlawful absences, and that the district board of trustees or its designee shall promptly approve or disapprove any student absence in excess of ten days. “Intervention” means to identify the reasons for the student’s continued absence and to develop a plan in conjunction with the student and his parent or guardian to improve his future attendance.
Homebound Services: When it has been determined by a physician that a child will be out of school because of illness or injury for five (5) or more days, please notify the school Attendance Office immediately. If the child is able to receive homebound teaching service, a homebound teacher can be sent to the home at no cost to the parent.
Late Arrivals/Departures: An adult must come inside to sign in a child who is tardy. Children not picked up by 2:45 must be signed out by an adult. School hours are 7:30-2:15.
Early Sign-out: Please schedule doctor and dental appointments after school. Students need to be in school all day from 7:30-2:15. If a student must be dismissed early due to sickness or an emergency, a parent or guardian must come and sign him/her out in the office. Sign-outs will not be permitted after 2:00 p.m.
Perfect Attendance Awards:
In order to receive a Perfect Attendance Certificate Award for the year, students:
- Must attend a full day of school every day of the school year (from 7:35 – 2 p.m.). If we are on a half day schedule, the hours are from 7:35-11:00 a.m.
- Have no more than 5 tardies per year.
3. Have no more than 5 early dismissals. All early dismissal times totaled together should not equal more than 3 hours of instructional teaching time missed.
